Mai Mai Mai returns after his colossal double-album ‘Rimorso’ and his recent collaboration with Lino Capra Vaccina with his first original motion picture soundtrack for the Ivan Salatić directed ‘Wondrous is the Silence of my Master OST’, premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.

Set in 19th century Montenegro, Morlak, a poet and bishop, leads his tribe, a small group of rebels, in resisting the invaders. Gravely ill, he is sent to southern Italy in search of a cure. The journey takes him to a house in Naples, a city that contrasts sharply with his homeland’s isolated hills.

Mai Mai Mai’s backdrop of Mediterranean gothic, miasmic ambient industrial and outsider folklore is the perfect combination to carry this cinematic reflection on identity, displacement, and the enduring ties between individuals and the lands they call home. The Roma based noise artist is free to roam and dials it up on expansive soundscapes like ‘The Frogs’, ‘The Head’, ‘The Enlightenment’. One of the centerpieces is the stunning opener ‘Mirabilis’ featuring the haunting voice of Bosnian musician Igor Božanić, while ‘Rimorso’s trademark hauntology sound is present with 4 tracks from the album, ‘Fimmene Fimmene’, a recontextualized protest chant of female tobacco workers in Salento, sung majestically by Nidi d’Arac prodigy Vera Di Lecce; ‘Sind’ revisits one of Faraualla’s (Puglia female quartet known for their repertoire of a cappella vocal polyphonies) pieces with techno outsider Cosimo Damiano and the vital percussion of the Ars Ludi ensemble; ‘Antiche Memorie’ is heightened by maestro and longtime Battiato collaborator Lino Capra Vaccina (vibraphone, gong, percussion), purveyor of cosmic sheen and placid elegance.

‘Wondrous is the Silence of my Master OST’ is out digitally on June 11th and physically on Limited Edition Gold Cassette.
